Grilled NY Strip Steaks with ZEKES Coffee Rub

Bold, smoky, and just a little mysterious — this steak recipe showcases our famous ZEKES Coffee Rub and a foolproof grill method for steakhouse-worthy results.

☕ Why It Works:

ZEKES Coffee Rub brings out the rich umami of NY strip steaks with a deep, earthy blend of coffee, spices, and just the right touch of sweetness. The grilling method — a classic flip sequence — builds a perfect crust while locking in juicy, medium-rare perfection.

Ingredients:

  • 2 NY strip steaks (1–1.25” thick, about 10–12 oz each)
  • ZEKES Coffee Rub, enough to coat all sides generously
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional: butter for finishing

Instructions:

1. Prep the Steaks

  • Pat steaks dry with paper towels.
  • Rub with olive oil and coat generously with ZEKES Coffee Rub on all sides.
  • Let sit at room temp for at least 20–30 minutes while your grill heats up.

2. Preheat the Grill

  • Preheat grill to high heat (about 450–500°F). Clean and oil the grates well.

3. Grill Using the Flip Method
This method builds crust and distributes heat evenly without overcooking. For medium-rare:

  • 2 minutes on the first side
  • Flip, 2 minutes on the second side
  • Flip again, 2 minutes
  • Final flip, 2 minutes

🔥 Total: ~8 minutes for medium-rare
For thicker steaks, add 30 seconds to each flip. For medium, add 1 minute to the final flip.

4. Rest & Serve

  • Remove from grill and let rest for 5–7 minutes, tented with foil.
  • Optional: top with a pat of butter or sprinkle with flaky salt.

🍽 Pro Tips:

  • Always rest your steak! It keeps juices in the meat, not on the plate.
  • For crosshatch grill marks, rotate the steak 45° halfway through each flip.
  • Try slicing against the grain and serving with chimichurri or grilled veggies.
