These Snickerdoodle Cookies are a family favorite that holds a special place in my heart, thanks to my Aunt Barb.
She made these at every family gathering, and they were always a hit. Now, I’ve put my own spin on the recipe, and I’m excited to share this version with you!
Soft and chewy on the inside, with a crunchy cinnamon-sugar coating on the outside (thanks to my Crunchy Cinnamon Sugar), these cookies are a perfect balance of sweetness and spice.
Trust me, every bite will take you right back to those warm, cozy family moments. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt (Himalayan and/or Trapani Sicilian are our faves)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup Cinnamon Sugar (for rolling)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
2. Prepare Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
3. Cream the Butter and Sugar:
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, until fully combined.
4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough.
5. Roll the Dough:
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls.
- Roll each dough ball in your Cinnamon Sugar to coat completely. This gives the cookies a delicious, crispy exterior.
6.Bake the Cookies:
- Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set. The cookies will continue to firm up as they cool, so don't worry if they seem a bit soft when they come out of the oven!
7. Cool and Enjoy:
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Serve with a glass of milk or enjoy on their own!
